THE ORIGIN OF THE ETERNAL SACRED ORDER OF THE CHERUBIM AND SERAPHIM CHURCH AND MORNING STAR CHURCH

The Church was founded by Late Saint Moses Orimolade Tunolase of blessed memory. The group was unique in that they worship in white garments and are the first authentic African church founded by a Nigerian; St. Moses Orimolade Tunolase was born on Sunday 11th November, 1877 at Okorun street, Ikare Akoko in Ondo State. He started his evangelistic and spiritual healing work from his home town, in Ikare Akoko and moved to other parts of the country before moving to Lagos when he had a vision that the Atlantic Ocean was abount to submerge Lagos.

After many successful prayer sessions and revival services he won many followers. He never intended to start a church but only to spiritually reawaken the existing churches by teaching them the way and injunction of the Holy Spirit. Many of the church leaders rejected him for many reasons including the fact that he was not only an illiterate but also that he had no known religious root. With the huge followership it became expedient to find a name for the prayer group. At Agosofin in Lagos Island the Order was named Seraph on Wednesday 9th September, 1925. And Cherub was added to the name on Thursday 26th May, 1927.

Late Saint Moses Orimolade Tunolase left Lagos Island to Ebute Metta and he got the church transferred to Lagos Street in Ebute Metta. From Ebute Metta he moved to Ojokoro and invited Late Baba Williams Onanuga. He wore him one of his own garments and blessed him as his successor. Baba Orimolade passed on Friday 18th October, 1933 and was laid to rest on 19th October, 1933 at Ojokoro in a Lagos sub-urban.

The late High Priest of the Eternal Sacred Order of the Morning Star and Saint Michael Star, Fountain of Life Mount Zion, who was then a member of the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim had earlier met with the founder of the Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim Late Baba Aladura Orimolade Tunolase when he relocated to Ifako, the residence of Late Elder J.K. Coker who was the father of the now Priest – E.Olu. Coker. Incidentally, the Late High Priest who as then working with the Nigerian Railway Corporation was transferred to the Eastern Region of Nigeria. Initially, he did not want to go but he got a spiritual instruction to go for God had a purpose for the transfer. He left and God fulfilled His purpose by making him to open 86 branches within 7 years of his transfer/stay in the East before being posted back to Lagos.

Unfortunately, he had problems with the Mother Church over ordination issues which resulted in his separating from the Cherubim and Seraphim to establish the Eternal Sacred Order of the Morning Star and St. Michael Star, Fountain of Life, Mount Zion in July 1963.
